Green Day's 'Savior': a politically supportive song about bisexuality - The Sunflower

Green Day's New Album 'Saviors': a Return to Embrace Bisexuality and Politics

Fans, are you ready for the new wave of rock music? Today, we're talking about the San Francisco-based band known for their unique pop-punk sound, Green Day, who have been a force to be reckoned with in the rock music scene since their debut album Dookie in 1994. Ten years later, they reached new heights with American Idiot, an album that was not only a musical success, but also one of the most influential in the band's history for its deep political message.

Today, nearly 20 years later, Green Day return to the music scene with their brand new album 'Saviors'. The album is not as politically charged as American Idiot, but it is innovative in its music and themes, especially its embrace of bisexuality, which is refreshing.

For a longtime Green Day fan like myself, it's so exciting to hear their new material in 2024. This is the band's first album to be released in its entirety since February 2020 when they released 'Father of All...'. After listening to Saviors, I realized that Green Day's musical style is still unique, and they've managed to bring that style to their new album.

Two of my favorite songs on Saviors are 'Bobby Sox' and 'The American Dream Is Killing Me'. 'Bobby Sox' is at the top of the list because the song showcases Billy Joe Armstrong's bisexual identity. Armstrong came out as bisexual in 1995, a challenging time for the LGBTQ community. "Bobby Sox," which tells the story of a potentially bisexual person asking someone to be their partner, is a song that I was really excited about because I've never heard any song that explores the subject of bisexuality so directly.

Another song, "The American Dream Is Killing Me" is another favorite of mine with its great opening and energetic melody. Not only is it a great opener for Saviors, but it's also a politically charged piece that critiques those outdated ideologies of the 1950s.

Overall, Green Day's Saviors is one of the highlights of 2024. If you haven't heard it yet, I highly recommend you experience it. It's not just an album, it's a journey of musical and cultural discovery.
