Austin Gay Men's Chorus Celebrates Social Progress with Spring Concert This Weekend

AUSTIN, Texas - This weekend, the Austin Gay Men's Chorus (AGMC) will host its 35th season of spring concerts at First Austin, titled "There's A Time For Us," which is expected to draw large crowds. The show is expected to draw a large crowd.

Scheduled for Saturday, April 27 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, April 28 at 4 p.m., this concert will be an uplifting celebration of social movement and progress. Tickets start at $20 and can be purchased online.

Daniel Arredondo, Artistic Director of AGMC, is excited about the upcoming show. We're changing the way our patrons think about 'choral concerts' by incorporating current hits into the show," he said. As we take our patrons through a variety of emotions, our patrons should be inspired and hopefully inspired to make a change."

The program's theme, "There's A Time For Us," is rooted in acknowledging the past and recognizing the significance of social progress. Arredondo reflects on the evolution of the choir over the past 35 years, emphasizing the progress made in LGBTQ+ acceptance while acknowledging the ongoing challenges, especially for transgender people.

Originally known as the Capital Men's Chorus, the Austin Gay Men's Chorus has been a staunch advocate for LGBTQ+ rights since its founding in 1989. Over the years, the chorus has gone from strength to strength, performing not only locally, but at prestigious venues such as Carnegie Hall.

The Spring Concert is designed to be an inclusive event, with pre-concert receptions offering attendees the opportunity to mingle and enjoy refreshments. The receptions begin one hour prior to each performance and feature cash wine and non-alcoholic cocktails as well as snacks.
