After dating both men and women, Carmine married artist Grant Schaeffer in 2007. He shared that after many failed relationships, he was ready to stop having a bad one. By the time he met Grant, they were both approaching 40, and Carmine had already done a lot of therapy and was ready to start their relationship with honesty and openness.

Carmine calls honesty "the most important thing in any successful relationship." He jokes that his marriage to Schaeffer felt different because it lasted longer and had a touch of humor. Carmine emphasizes that after experiencing different types of relationships and situations, he believes that if you're happy now, then everything that happened before is part of your happiness.
