The Digital Nomadic Lives of Gay Couples: Adventures from Seattle to Around the World
In a quiet corner of Seattle, a gay twenty-something couple, Michael and Brent, have decided to make a radical change in their lifestyle. Their careers as writers have been filled with ups and downs, but that's not the only reason for their discontent. The political turmoil and cultural climate in the United States made them feel anxious and alone. So they decided to sell their house and move their lives to the cloud, embarking on a life of digital nomadism.
In 2017, this couple left Seattle with their bags and their dreams. Their plan is to move to a new country every few months until they find a place they want to settle. As writers, they can work from anywhere with an internet connection. This flexibility offers them more freedom than ever before.
Their journey began in Miami, followed by Malta in Europe, then Matera in Italy and Bansko in Bulgaria. Over the past few years, they have lived in over 24 locations in 20 different countries, including Vietnam, Switzerland, Macedonia and Thailand. Currently, they are in Valencia, Spain, contemplating whether this will be their final destination.
During their journey, Michael and Brent had many adventures, some exciting and some full of surprises. Their apartment caught fire in Bulgaria, and they had to make an emergency landing in Boston when their plane caught fire while flying across the Atlantic. But they've also had some good times, like riding a gondola in Malta, hiking in the Swiss Alps, or biking through the rice paddies of Vietnam.
They were surprised by the low cost of living as a Digital Nomad, especially in countries where the cost of living is lower. They met interesting people from all over the world, including other LGBTQ+ digital nomads and locals. These experiences made them realize that despite different cultures and customs, people are much more alike than different.
Michael and Brent's story is not only about the adventure of traveling, but also about finding their own way of life and freedom. Their experience proves that even in the midst of uncertainty and change, you can find your own happiness and fulfillment. Their stories have inspired many to rethink the possibilities of life and to boldly pursue their dreams.
In their new column, "Where Brent and Michael Are Going," the couple will share stories and experiences from their travels, both high mountains and low valleys. By sharing their lives, they hope to encourage more people to explore the world and find their own path to happiness.
